Second Avenue Community Center Partnership
2nd Ave. Community Center Construction Team
We are coming alongside the Second Avenue Center to remodel a number of rooms in the center. Contributions to Forward are providing the material for these renovations and volunteers from River Ridge are providing the labor.
When is it?
The times when we need labor vary a great deal. When there is a project that needs workers, you will be sent an invitation to volunteer a description of what type of work will be done, and a list of tools to bring.
What type of work?
There is all kind of work to be done. Much of the work is unskilled labor where you can learn very quickly how to do the job (e.g. painting, demolition). There are other jobs where we need skilled laborers (e.g. wiring, carpet laying).
Each day after school 30 from Mary C. Snow Elementary come to the after-school program at the Second Avenue Community Center. River Ridge Church provide homework buddies for these students Monday through Thursday.
As part of the after-school program, the students are fed dinner before heading home. Volunteers from River Ridge provide dinner to the students on Mondays and Wednesdays. Additionally, each child is sent home on Friday with a food for the week-end in what we call a backpack blessing bag.
